August is here, and while summer is starting to wind down at the City of Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center, the courts have stayed active throughout the season. July brought steady programming and continued Summer Camp momentum, and now we’re heading into the final stretch of camp before the transition into the back-to-school season. Here’s a look at what’s been happening on our courts and what’s ahead.
Junior & Adult Tennis Highlights
July kept things rolling on the adult side with our regular evening clinics and Love 2 Learn program continuing throughout the month. With many players still traveling for summer vacations, it was a slightly quieter month, but our regulars kept the courts busy and the energy high.
On the junior side, our Summer Camp continued to thrive, and our ROGY programs showed great growth throughout the month. It’s been wonderful to see our junior players stay committed all summer long, whether through camp, ROGY, or both.
Looking ahead, our adult programming will continue as scheduled through August, with all evening clinics running as usual. On the junior side, once Summer Camp wraps up, there will be a brief pause in programming to give kids and families time to reacclimate to their school-year schedules. Our regular Monday through Thursday ROGY programming will pick back up shortly after, so watch for updates on the return date.
Facility Update
No major updates around the facility this month. We look forward to a steady August as we ease into the back-to-school season and prepare for a strong fall of programming ahead.
Coaches Tip of the Month
The voice in your head has a powerful impact on your performance. If you wouldn’t say it to your doubles partner, don’t say it to yourself. Too often, we’re our own toughest critics. After a missed shot, it’s easy to replay the mistake or label yourself with thoughts like “I always do this” or “I’m playing terribly.” Those thoughts don’t improve your game, they distract you from the next point and drain your confidence. Remember, confidence isn’t built by never making mistakes, it’s built by responding to them well. Speak to yourself with the same encouragement, patience, and belief you’d offer a teammate. Your mindset can become one of the strongest tools in your game.
