September is here, and the City of Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center is stepping into a meaningful month packed with community-focused events. From an All-Girls Tennis Camp to a charity doubles tournament benefiting childhood cancer research, there’s plenty on the calendar. Here’s a look at what’s been happening on our courts and what’s ahead.
Junior & Adult Tennis Highlights
Adult programming remained steady throughout August, with our regular schedule of clinics continuing as usual. On the junior side, our ROGY classes continued throughout the evenings while Summer Camp officially wrapped up on July 31.
Looking ahead in September, we’re excited to host our All-Girls Tennis Camp on Saturday, September 19. This special day will feature instruction from an all-women coaching team, along with lunch, a t-shirt, and swag for every participant. It’s a great opportunity for our junior girls to build skills, make friends, and enjoy a day dedicated entirely to them.
On the adult side, mark your calendars for September 25 and 26, when FWBTC will host a charity tennis and pickleball tournament in partnership with the Rally Foundation. Open to anyone over the age of 16, this doubles tournament will donate 93 cents of every dollar raised to childhood cancer research and family support programs. It’s a meaningful way to play the games you love while making a real difference for kids and families facing childhood cancer.
Facility Update
We’re proud to have hosted a USAF Family Day event at FWBTC on August 21, welcoming military families to our courts for a fun day of tennis. Supporting our local military community is something we take great pride in, and we look forward to more opportunities to serve them in the future.
Coaches Tip of the Month
Every coach has their own style, personality, experience, and way of communicating. What works brilliantly for one coach may look completely different from another, and that’s okay. There isn’t always one “right” way to coach. Some coaches are technical and detail-oriented, others are more feel-based and instinctive. Some are energetic and demanding, while others are calm, quiet, and encouraging. At the end of the day, the real question is: Is the player learning, improving, enjoying the process, and getting results? Great coaching isn’t about copying someone else’s style, it’s about developing your own authentic approach while staying focused on what matters most, helping your students become better players and better competitors. Be yourself, coach your way, get results
