FWB Welcomes New Director of Tennis, Kara Borromeo & Events Coordinator, Zephyr Brokaw

USTA Florida is excited to welcome two new staff members to the Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center! Kara Borromeo is the new Director of Tennis while Zephyr Brokaw joins the team as the Tournaments and Special Events Coordinator. Both bring experience, energy, and a strong commitment to growing tennis in Northwest Florida.

The two previously worked together at Coral Reef Park in Miami, where Kara spent more than 20 years building and growing public park tennis programs for the City of Palmetto Bay.

Many in the South Florida tennis community know Kara and now she is bringing her experience and dedication to the Panhandle. In the last two decades, she has cultivated a vibrant and inclusive tennis community, designing programs that serve both junior and adult players. Her commitment to excellence is reflected not only in her leadership but in her mentorship, having guided nine former junior players through the process of becoming certified RSPA Teaching Professionals.

Kara has RSPA Elite Professional and PTR Professional certifications, ensuring her programs evolve with the needs of her diverse players. Her achievements have been widely recognized through numerous accolades, including proclamations from the Village of Palmetto Bay, multiple USTA Florida honors, and a place among the Tennis Channel’s “Top 50 Coaches in America.” In 2024, she received a key to the city from Mayor Karyn Cunningham and the 2024 Stars Award by RSPA Florida.

Zephyr Brokaw, originally from Miami, has been dedicated to tennis since 2020. As a registered professional coach with the RSPA, Zephyr brings a thoughtful, player-focused approach to developing athletes of all ages and skill levels. He is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Arts and Animation at Miami Dade College. Zephyr also has an interest in Padel and enjoys the unique challenges it brings.

Kara and Zephyr have already kicked off their USTA Florida journey as they host a Level 6 tournament at Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center this weekend.
